The building
The Health Sciences Centre at Kelowna General Hospital combines clinical space with teaching and study space, on a heavily glazed building in one of the sunniest parts of the province.
That mix means two shading problems in one contract: readable screens and projectors in teaching rooms, and clinical areas that need privacy and darkening.
What we did
We priced from drawings, measured on site, and installed the shading through the building — solar screen assemblies on the exposed elevations for glare and heat gain, and room-darkening assemblies where the space needed to go dark.
Openings out of normal reach were handled with motorized assemblies and grouped control.
Why it matters
On campus buildings the specification has to survive a decade of students and clinicians. We choose the fabric openness per elevation rather than applying one product everywhere, which is the difference between a shade that gets used and a shade that gets left down.
